Vrealize 7.0 integration with Active directory

Hi

I am doing a deployment of VRA 7.2

I have used windows 2012 R2 standard  as AD and Windows 2008 R2 for Iaas server

All the service in VRA and Iaas server are up and running  and i am able to login successfully

I face issue when i try to add the directory from Administration > directory  .

I am using the Active Directory ( Integrated Windows Authentication ) and logged in to tenant using Tenant Administrator

I know my domain admin is correct because same i used to add other computers to domain.

But in this case when i try to add the directory i am getting the error

"Could not join domain: Error occurred while joining domain. Verify Domain Admin username and password is correct, and the username is the sAMAccountName."

I know the credentials are correct and have the the required priveledge

Second IP address on one NIC?

We're using vRA, and we're trying to setup new machines with two IP addresses (managed by IPAM) on the same NIC.

Is there a syntax for requesting this as part of the network profile? I'm not finding any way to accomplish it.

Second IP on single NIC

I am working with a Blueprint for my dev team. They need a web server that and we currently use a single NIC / multiple IP setup in Production. So, I need to provide this in my vRealize resource.

I discovered this property: VirtualMachine.NetworkN.AddressM

Is this useful for this problem and if so at what point do I apply it? I attempted to use it as a custom property on the Network tab of the Blueprint.

Please help

var tenant = System.getContext().getParameter("__asd_tenantRef"); // This works fine

var bg = System.getContext().getParameter('__asd_subtenantRef'); //This show the error

But vRA shows me an error, and i dont know why....what is wrong?.

Hi ,

it is possibile to create a workflow that request for 2 input parameter (first and last name)

and recall a powershell script to clone a AD user setting this 2 (and other) parameter?

for example :

name Marco

last name: rossi

clone user "generico" setting name to "Marco" , last name to " rossi"

email to "m.rossi@email.com"

set a default password (and mark "change password at net logon")

thank you

Updated certificates and now iaas-service won't start

I've gone through and re-established trusts multiple times, i'm at a loss right now. Services start except iaas-service.  The infrastructure tab and blueprints won't load.

Weird thing is the last updated date is from yesterday, so its like its not even trying to update/start?

I'm running in a distributed environment with an external postgres.

I'm seeing some errors in the repository log..

In vRA 6.2.5, requests are failing due to the following error:

What is causing this fatal request error and how can it be fixed?

the horrors of "Guest OS customization timeout"

$

Hey all,

i've come across an abundance of things that can cause guest OS customization to time out. Especially if your template VMs are prepared with Guest User Agent (btw: to install Guest User Agent on windows you're best off using this script: The missing prepare_vra_template » Extending Clouds )

This is all windows guests, but might help for linux troubleshooting as well ...

typically the procedure is

a) vsphere customization is invoked -- Log A in guest OS: C:\Windows\Temp\vmware-imc\guestcust.log

b) then it tries to connect to Manager/IaaS (SSL handshake), which can be found in Log B: C:\VRMGuestAgent\axis2\logs\gugent-axis.log

c) once that succeds the agent logs here: Log C: C:\opt\vmware-appdirector\agent\logs\agent_bootstrap.log

1. if using vSphere 5.5, upgrade your ESXi to latest (at least VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 3)

in our case sometimes a machine failed to customize as it tried to join the domain. But all network connectors were disconnected on the VM at this stage, so the domain join would never happen.

In Log A: you find typically:

Its trying to connect interface

[2016-07-21T02:01:47 DEBUG] Got VMX response 'disconnected'

[2016-07-21T02:01:49 DEBUG] Trying to connect network interfaces, attempt 5

[2016-07-21T02:01:49 DEBUG] Rpci: Sending request='deployPkg.update.state 4 103 C:\Windows\TEMP\vmware-imc\guestcust.log@4000'

But fails after 5 tries:

[2016-07-21T02:01:54 ERROR] Can't connect network interfaces after 5 attempts, giving up

[2016-07-21T02:01:54 INFO] GuestCustUtil exiting.

when you try to connect the adapters manually in vCenter, this also fails:

ESXi logs similar to this:

2016-07-29T14:53:37.987Z [69CC1B70 info 'Libs' opID=70468395-37 user=vpxuser] Vix: [311413 foundryHandles.c:1526]: Error VIX_E_FAIL in Vix_AddRefHandleImpl(): Add ref a destroyed/recycled handle=-1, file=(null), line=0.

totally different issue but exact same logging: Changing the boot delay on a powered on Virtual Machine on ESXi 5.5 fails (2138218) | VMware KB --> Update vSphere layer, resolved the issue for me.

If you are able to connect the Networking adapters, make sure your virtual machines HW version is upodated as well as VMware Tools

2. appd.properties not found in Log C

check first Log B if the agent can actually connect to the Manager/IaaS

If you're using load-balanced vRA, check that LB is forwarding to the correct (active) manager. Best is to simply try in browser what is reported as URL in first line (in the logs above)

Problem 2:

Fri Aug 05 05:54:31 2016] [debug] ..\..\src\core\transport\http\sender\http_transport_sender.c(246) ctx_epr:https://yourManagerFQDN:443/VMPS2

This indicates certificate problem, but did not make sense as the last few days deployment was ok. So I checked and the load balancer was pointing to the wrong INF server (need to check my monitoring rules)

3. Misconfigured Guest user agent

make sure to use script The missing prepare_vra_template » Extending Clouds

when running the script it requires three parameters

1. inf server where to download components. Use your infra server FQDN (not loadbalancer). if you used load balancer, simply use 1st INF server

2. IaaS server for agent communication: In loadbalanced environ, ment I use FQDN of Manager on loadbalancer. In small environment FQDN of infra server

3. Darwin password: create a new password (strong!!)

I'll probably add to it whatever else comes to mind., Please feel free to comment I'll modify accordingly. Those problems have taken too much time of my precious life ...

Custom properties for networking

Greetings,

Let's say I have a VM with one network interface, and I configure 2 IP addresses on this interface.

So what kinds of custom properties should I use to represent these 2 addresses in vRA?

Thanks,

Updates to catalog item not being pulled by SNOW plugin

$

When attempting to CRUD a property definition in an existing published catalog item, the changes are not being synced by the SNOW plugin. Even when I force the execution of the scheduled imports, the updates are not carried through(last executed at 1:05 PM 4/13/17). I am seeing no indication of a problem in the logs. It just doesn't appear to recognize a change in the catalog item.

I can force an update by removing the 'Service' in vRA and recreating it with the necessary catalog items included. However, this is not an acceptable solution. I have included a few screencaps for reference.

Storage shows double capacity in Compute Resources.

$

We have 6.2.2 distributed environment. We have 2 compute resources in Prod and 3 in DR. What I have observed is that the Storage Reserved (%) (Res/Phys) always shows double the capacity we have in the cluster. If we have 10TB and 5TB reservation then it shows 5TB/20TB. Why does it show 20TB instead on the available 10TB? This behavior is common across all the 5 compute resources we have. Is this by design to allow over commitment using thin provisioning?

Can the ITSM plugin gather more detail from the vRA VM instance to place into the CMDB?

$

I am being asked to provide more detail into the CMDB from the vRA plugin. I see there are ~90 fields available to the VMware Virtual Machine Instance CI object. I was hoping that more details of the VM would be included beyond the CPU/Mem/Disk information. We really need the FQDN and IP address at a minimum. I would also like to use vRA properties to populate items such as a billing number. I can do most or all of these populations after the VM has been deployed, but would rather use the plugin if possible.

How to set reservation policy with Event Broker

$

I have a need to dynamically assign the reservation policy after a request has been submitted based on the type of catalog item requested and business group membership of the user. I have created vRO workflows that select the appropriate reservation policy, but I cannot get it to apply the the deployment using the "ReservationPolicyId" property or the hidden "__reservationPolicyID" property. I have attempted these properties through an output of the vRO workflow as a properties object and also using "System.getModule("com.vmware.library.vcac").addUpdatePropertyFromVirtualMachineEntity". Other properties such as setting the VM Folder, setting custom attributes or setting CPU/Mem sizes work properly. It seems to me as though this property is referenced prior to my setting it and therefore is ignored. I am using the EBS topic "Machine provisioning" with the conditions in the image below.

I look forward to your assistance! Thank you.

vRA time to provision parameters

$

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone came across this. Is there a simple/easy way to export, as a starting point for building a report, the parameters containing the creation details for a blueprint request? I'm interested in grabbing the exact time difference between the time when a blueprint was requested and until it was provisioned successfully. There are some parameters in the postgres db like datecreated or lastupdated, but I'm not 100% sure those are totally accurate for what I need.

Thanks!
