VRA / VCAC Plugin.AdMachineCleanup

$

The workflow for Plugin.AdMachineCleanup.x is not functioning when destroying a vm.  I can't seem to find any documentation that describes where the process is taking place so I'm not sure where to check for error messages (vRO?).  The vmware.virtualcenter.x is working properly so I'm sure that the component in vRA is functioning as expected.  Any help is greatly appreciated (even a link to some relevant doc as google searching isn't cutting it)

Emulate "Change reservation" option in vRA with vCO/vRO workflow?

$

Hi,

I'm trying to work out how to programatically change the reservation policy and storage policy on vCAC:Virtualmachine as part of a "Change Service Class" day-2 vRA Action via vCO. This needs to include Storage vMotion to a different sDRS cluster/datastore and/or re-assigning VM to a different vSphere storage policy (similar to Cloud Management Marketplace | Solution Exchange).

I've had a look at various approaches including Cloud Management Marketplace | Solution Exchang but the result does not change the VMs reservation policy, and in most scenarios after the VC:VirtualMachine is migrated to alternate storage, there are discrepencies when viewing or editing the properties of the VM in vCAC (e.g. edit VM - cannot see the disk to edit). This is including after forcing a vCAC sync/inventory update.

I can see there are a number of vCAC VM properties that might need to change, and - assuming it's possible - would like to understand the best method of achieving the above while keeping vCAC model consistent with the new storage/VM compute location in vSphere:

e.g.

__reservationPolicyID = 15DE50B9-3740-4EA3-8440-387F4F58FA93

VirtualMachine.Storage.Cluster.ExternalReferenceId = group-p15722

VirtualMachine.Storage.Cluster.Name = ATCA_ITaaS_QATD_Gold001

VirtualMachine.Storage.Name = ATCA_ITaaS_QATD_Gold001

(same for each disk)

This looks like it might provide a way

http://d-fens.ch/2014/02/16/vcac52-change-virtualmachine-reservation-and-storagepath-revisited/

... but context is at time of provisioning and I want to make sure I'm going down a supported path ...

So the question is is there a supported method of updating all of the required properties on a vCACVM individually, or is there a single call to change e.g. vCACVM reservation policy/storage policy that emulates the GUI functionality?

vRA team?

Many thanks for any assistance

Storage as a service reporting

Hi All,

We have been using the advanced services to expose storage as a service.   One of the customers would like us to display some capacity and usage data within the service portal context (within vRA), rather than link out to an external system.

So the question is,  is there a way to send data  to the Home tab and have a portlet report it?   I've been searching the documentation but have not found anything.    I did see the tag line - offered by VMware in the portlet selection list.

Thanks for the help!

Configure an external VCO Server with a vCO workflow

We are working on a vCO workflow that creates a vCAC tenant and all the required entities by itself. At this point we managed to create almost everything but now we need to configure an external vCO Server to the tenant, we are not going to use the default vCO.

There is any way we could use vCO to create this server automaticly with vCO, since we could not find any entity or resource we could use to do this?

Prevent business group admin from creating blueprint

     Hello,

Is there a way where I can limit the business group admin from creating blueprints ?

We need to allow him only to deploying machines, and manage machines deployed by users under his business group.

We are using VCAC 6.1.1

There should be a role that we remove from the admin to achieve that, however I am not sure which one it should be.

Anyone came across a similar situation ?

Deleting vCAC Entities

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to delete VM Item in vCAC/vRA.

I have used vCACEntityManager.deleteModelEntityBySerializedKey methode. Seems like it does not delete the vCAC:VirtualMachine object.

Does anyone have experience with the topic?

How does vCAC:Entity correspond to vCAC:VirtualMachine object?

Connect Using VMRC vRealize Automation 6.2

Hi,

I'm sure this question will have been asked before but I'm struggling to enable the 'Connect Using VMRC' or 'Connect to Remote Console'.

I have been reading articles regarding the security issue with VMRC but they seem to state that everything is fine with version 6.2. The action 'Connect Using VMRC' doesn't seem to exist but the 'Connect to Remote Console' does.

The action has been enabled in Entitlements for the specific admin user but we only get the option to RDP to the VM along with the rest of the actions enabled.

Any information would be appreciated.

Hi All,

Currently VCAC request status displays "Success", "Failed" or "In Progress" depending upon workflow execution.  Is it possible to update request status in vcac? My requests are ASD request and  I would like to show where it is in workflow  or if the workflow is failed why it failed.

Thanks,

running an inventory collection will display the correct information again but I want the workflow to update these values.

can someone please point me in the right direction?

Common Components Catalog -- include new property

$

Hi all,

We are running vRA 6.1 with the Common Components Catalog handling Custom Hostname, IPAM, and Active Directory joins.  Everything is working well, but a new requirement has surfaced where we have to capture a new property in the vRA Catalog and feed that into the vCO workflow for IPAM.  The new property is intended to be added into the Comment field of the IPAM Record that gets created for the machine.

We updated the vCO workflow and everything is working in that workflow.  When we run it in vCO, it prompts for the new property (along with all the pre-existing properties), and it works -- an IPAM record is created and the Comment field is updated properly.

We created a corresponding property in vRA (same name as the input parameter on the vCO workflow) and added it to the IPAM build profile.  However, when we submit a machine request, that property is not getting handed over from vRA to vCO.  Remarkably, the request does not fail, and the machine gets built, but the IPAM comment field does not reflect the new property is null.

Hopefully that description paints the picture enough for one of you geniuses to comment on what we have missed?

Thanks in advance for the help / ideas...

vRA New VM Request - Mark input boxes "Description" and "Reason for request" as required

$

Hello,

is it possible to mark the two text boxes "Description" and "Reason for request" as required in vRA 6.2?

I can add my own text boxes using the property dictionary and set them as required but I didn't find the place where to mark the two default boxes as required so they have to be filled in when submitting a new virtual machine request.

Thanks and Best Regards

XP Template Clone - NIC Disconnected 0.0.0.0

$

Hi, I have an issue where when I create XP VMs (NetApp flexclone - ESX 5.5)

I have 2 XP templates - they use VMXNET3 NICs and mainly they are successful.

However there always seems to be at least one that doesn't connect the NIC and therefore the IP is 0.0.0.0. I can resolve by going into vcenter and connecting it and it picks up the IP allocated by the PortGroup/Network.

I have just created a batch of 10 VMs and a batch of 8, one in each batch was affected

What seems to happen is as the VM is cloned, it starts the Guest Customisation, then DRS migrates the VM, then it completes Guest customisation but the NIC is disconnected.

Our Windows 7 VMs are unaffected

We have 4 hosts in the Cluster and VMs are working fine on each host. So the pattern doesnt point to a particular host. There are plenty of ports left on the DVSwitch for that network too.

The following is whats shown in the VM Events:

How to pass Service Blueprint into Custom Property during Machine request Form

$

Hello,

I am looking to put some validation using Advanced services for the information submitted during the request of VM provisioning such as Addtional User name, AD group Name or other values which should be validated agains the source before the form is submitted. I can see 'Owner' field have that validation (an Example) if we try to change the Owner of the VM

i had created a advanced service blueprint which can contact the source to validate the entered value but i am facing difficulties to have it passed to specific Custom Property at the time of Request form.

does anyone try to do anything in this regards?

Thanks,

MG

Delete Custom Resource

Hi All,

I need to expose a DyanmicDataType created in VCO as a custom data source in ASD and manage this custom data source. Let me know if I am doing this correct.

1, Create Custom resource in VCAC:

     * Define a new data type by calling "Define Type" in DynamicTypes folder in vco.  The data type is  <namespace>.<CustomObject>

     * Create new custom resource in ASD based off of DynamicTypes:namespace:CustomObject

     * Create a VCO workflow that outputs an object of type CustomObject.  The workflow returns an object by calling DynamicTypesManager.makeObject

2. Delete Custom resource

How to delete this custom resource that appears in "Items" tab. I can create a new resource action and associate it with a VCO workflow. How to delete this custom resource instance in vaca from  the workflow.

Any help appreciated.

vRA 6.2 to 6.2.1 Upgrade - DBUgrade issue

Hi,

I am attempting to upgrade my vRealize Automation environment from 6.2.0 to 6.2.1 and am having an issue running the DBUpgrade scripts.  I've already updated the appliance successfully and am now at the part where I need to upgrade the DB prior to upgrading the IaaS components.  I believe my issue has to do with the fact that the dbname contains a "space".  Can anyone help me resolve this issue please?
