vRA 8.1 - Load Balancer not modificable - Policy Mode

Hey folks,

 

I am trying to deploy a new Blueprint using an existing Load Balancer that was created in NSX-T. After dealing with a lot of issues i figured out that vRA was not able to modify the LB as it was created using Policy Mode. After recreating all the objects involved (Logical Router and Load Balancer) using Manager Mode it was able to do the modifications.

 

Is this a limitation or is there a way of creating objects using Policy Mode and made them modifiable?

VRA 8.1 - Adding/Removing NICs Before Provisioning

Does anyone know if it's possible to add/remove nics before provisioning starts...kinda like changing the blueprint on the fly?

 

In our environment, we have several different network configurations depending on what type and where a server is being built.  It could have 1-3 nics of varying port group needs.  We'd prefer to use one blueprint with one form and drive the logic from there.  But I can't figure out a way to manipulate the blueprint for those different cases - there is no count property on a network, so we can't set that to 0 to "remove" a nic.  And passing in an array of networks from a hidden input on the form may not be doable because we don't know any of the network Ids - which that array seems to need.

 

Can we manipulate the number of nics during Network Configure or Network Provision events?  Meaning, can we add in new nics or remove nics during those phases?  Or during some other event topic before provisioning kicks off?

 

We are are aware that we can make changes after the server is built during the post provisioning, but that would be the least optimal approach I think.  So really just looking for options before that.  For example, a blueprint with no networks attached, and then build them on the fly - either via inputs or during some events.  Or build a blueprint with 3 networks and remove 1 or more along the way if needed.

VRA 8 Deployment failed at Initialisation stage.

I was installing VRA8 with easy installer but getting this bellow error, its in initialisation stage. however, full log has been attached herewith for help me out.

Xaas on Vra 8

On vRA 7.5 I was able to create a regular workflow in the the vRO and publish it in the vRA (Xaas Blueprint).

For example I have a workflow which get the user login and reset his password.

 

On vRA 8.1 I still don't understand the flow.

I created the same Workflow in the orchestrator.

In the user field I attached an action with these lines:

var fullName = Server.getCurrentLdapUser().loginName;

return fullName;

From vRO the workflow finished without problem.

 

I went to the service Broker --> Content & Polices --> Content Source and imported my new workflow.

Then I went to Content Sharing and added imported workflow to my project.

 

When I tried to run the new Item from catalog, the field of user name stay empty.

So I went to Content & polices --> Content --> chose my item --> Customize form

In the field of user name I configured the value to use an external source (My action)

I expected that when I importing a workflow from the vRO it will also import the form I created there... Is there a problem in the way I did it?

 

Then I returned to catalog and tried to run my request again.

However, instead of my username I see a strange string: vro-gateway-JDZGP2y8495

How can I solve this problem?

cannot connect web gui due to certificate issue

I installed vRealize VMs in my test infra.

Installation progress is successful, but certificate issue got me annoying..

 

I installed self-signed certificates in my pc,(in trusted certificate group)

 

but only idm's certificate is showing "the issuer of the certificate could not be found" message in properties.

 

anyone have idea?

OMStat: Report on decomissioned vms

I have a txt vm list that I'd like to get a report on that includes the following:

  • VMname
  • Provision RAM
  • Average used RAM
  • Provisioned vCPU
  • Average used RAM
  • Provisioned disk space (GB)
  • Used disk space (GB)

 

I am okay dropping average used RAM and vCPU. I would think this would be an option to run via powercli but have no idea how to integrate the information from vRealize to powercli other than what I read (and tried) from https://ryanjan.uk/2018/05/16/running-vrops-reports-using-powercli/ . This seems easy enough but I require assistance on this quarterly task.

Get-content servers.txt seems like it needs to be used.

vRA 8.1 Tenant admin password reset

Hi,

 

Is there any possibility to reset vRA's tenant admin password within vIDM? The admin account exists within System Directory so it is not AD account.

 

I know that there is an "Reset Password" button in the vIDM Admin Console but it tries to send reset password email and I have no email servers yet.

 

I will appreciate any help how to reset/recover forgotten password.

Modify Ansible Tower inventory moment

Hi all,

 

We've added a Ansible Tower integration to vRA8 and so far so good. But a action to add the vm to the inventory is triggered before the vm is finished.. Should this succeed before the vm is ready, or does this have to wait??

 

If it has to wait, how can I change this?

 

I'm getting this error:

Ansible create workflow failed with error. Unable to add host to the inventory with Id: 5.

 

I have a Windows 2016 image with a Customization Specification containing this:

  • 1 auto logons as Administrator
  • 1 RunOnce command to enable remote Powershell and WinRM:
C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -Command "&{Enable-PSRemoting -Force; winrm quickconfig -force;}"

Hi ALL ,

 

I got a question as title ,

 

My envirnoment use vRealize Easy Installer and register for trial license

 

vRealize Lifecycle Manager  8.1

vRealize Automation 8.1

VMware Identity Manager 3.2

 

After Deploy

 

First Step login vrLCM setup LDAP auth,

Second IDM register automation and assign role

 

Although I login Automation portal always show 403 forbidden

 

 

How do I fix access right for this ?

How to optionally add disks

I need to add up to 4 disks of different sizes.  I tried setting the count to ${input.optionalDisk1Size == 0? 0 : 1} but that stops me from adding any other disks to the blueprint.  I can't seem to figure out how to add UP to 4 disks where the sizes vary.  It seems that I need 4 separate disks on the blueprint that may or may not be provisioned.

 

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

vRA 8.1 - setting a session timeut for the vRA and vRO web interface (web client)

I use a NSX Load Balancer to connect to my clustered vRA installation. I have set the timout on the LB to 120 minutes, but get logged of after 30 or so. This is very frustrating, if you have multiple tabs open and have to log every time the session disconnects.

Does anyone know a way on how to effectlively extend the session timput for the vRA web client?

vRA 8.1 - Usage of tags to trigger specific actions

Hello folks,

 

I am trying to specify logic about the assignment of the IP to be dynamic or static based on the tag that is applied on the Network object. So far i created two tags called:

 

  • assignment:static
  • assignment:dynamic

 

These tags have been applied to Network objects based on how i am handling the IP assignment. Some of them are being handled by a DHCP in NSX and some of them using the internal vRA IPAM. What i would like to do is add a condition on the assignment property for the vSphere Machine to be static if the network has the tag assignment:static or dynamic if the network has the tag assignment:dynamic.

 

For doing that i am experimenting a little bit and i am using the next validation:

Everytime i deploy a new VM it picks "dynamic" and i am 100% sure that is because i am using the wrong logic. Is it possible to use that logic based on the tags of another resource inside the Blueprint?

Converting SQL:ActiveRecord to DataGrid control for simple record editing

In the process of attempting to build a simple workflow to allow the editing of rows in an attached MS SQL DB.

I'm aware I can manually create a new Properties object and  map in the columns with  ".getProperty" calls, but I wondered if anyone had a better way to convert

SQL:ActiveRecord objects to a format compatiable with the DataGrid control?

Is it possible to allow my users to input a static ip and gateway for their VM when they request it from a blueprint?  It's a windows server 2019 image and I couldn't find an easy way to nicely pass these types of attributes... any suggestions (details please!) would be awesome.

 

Additional info:

Their VM gets attached to an existing NSX network based on their username and a tag assigned to that network in NSX.  It's a constraint on the network tag.

I also use a customization spec for this template.

vRA 7.6 - changing the value of a custom property on a Cafe Deployment

During initial provisioning, I add a custom property with a value to the deployment. The property is defined in the Property Dictionary and assigned to a machine blueprint.

 

When the deplyoemnt is progressing, I need to change the value of this property. I have tried 2 approaches:

1. Using REST:

          PUT query: /catalog-service/api/consumer/deployments/{deployment_id}, with body {"customProp":"value"}

2. Using the Orchestrator REST client:

          restClient = vraHost.createRestClient("com.vmware.csp.core.cafe.catalog.api");

          var props = new Properties();

          props.put("customProp","value");

          var response = restClient.put("/consumer/deployments/{deployment_id}", props);

 

I get a success response using both methods, but the change is not made in vRA, there is stil lthe old value of the property.

Also, what I have discovered afterwards is, that even when I dump the whole Deployment configuration using the API, the custom  property is nowhere to be found.

 

Can someone please give me any tips on this?

I am checking the possibility of deploying ubuntu 20.04.01 using vRA 7.6 with cloud-init customization and I am facing with some IP configuration issues. Is it possible to deploy this latest ubuntu version from vRA7.6 and with vCenter & ESXi host 6.7? Since I could see articles only about deploying from vRA8.0.
