Register unmanaged machine using vRealize API

$

Hello,

I am trying to register a VM by using the following API:

/iaas-proxy-provider/api/machines/register

with the following payload:

{    "owner": "user@example.local",    "virtualMachineId": "ff1b4d87-1209-4096-8920-2ac8dcff3f3d",    "requestingUser": "user@example.local",    "componentId": "VirtualMachine",    "machineProperties": [],    "compositeBlueprintId": "CentOS7",    "deploymentName": "Deployment_MACHINE-1",    "hostReservationId": "17d5fde6-6d13-48d6-a62d-271e5323b79a",    "templateId": "de26e2f2-b4b1-43f6-a96a-cb4c5ae753b0",    "hostStorageReservationId": "819ee0b5-b1dc-4b77-bba3-2a691333a090"
}

My question is: how to get the values for templateId and hostStorageReservationId. I was able to determine correct values expected by API by performing Bulk Import functionality of vRealize and examining the logs on IaaS server:

RegisterVmFromQueueActivity.ProcessElement:
Register VM: ff1b4d87-1209-4096-8920-2ac8dcff3f3d,
blueprint: de26e2f2-b4b1-43f6-a96a-cb4c5ae753b0,
reservation: Reservation-DEV-1 (17d5fde6-6d13-48d6-a62d-271e5323b79a),
storage: Pure-A (819ee0b5-b1dc-4b77-bba3-2a691333a090),
owner: user@example.local,
element: 4

The value for blueprint matches the templateId in API call and storage matches hostStorageReservationId. If I performed the API call, the import process started correctly.

It appears that IaaS server is able to extract these 2 values from its SQL internal database.

My question is: Is there a way to get these values by using vRealize API or any vRO plugin? I am unable to find any relevant API or class that would provide these values.

Run a command (exe, bat) in a Windows PE guest after creation using Orchestrator

Hello,

I am currently using a Scriptable Task in Orchestrator to deploy a virtual machine from a template using the cloneVM Action.

After creation, I would like to start the new VM, and run a program (exe or bat) inside. My problem is that inside my VM, there is only a very lightweight Windows Preinstall environment, which does not allow for VMWareTools to install, and also it does not even have a powershell installed.

Is there any way to achieve this without VMWare tools installed? Which ways are possible? Additionally, I would like to pass a commandline argument to a program I start, which is defined during the orchestrator workflow.

Thanks for any support, feel free to ask if you need aditional information.

vRA 8.0.1 - vCenter Coud Account - failed to synchronize images.

I am fairly new to 8.0.1 and I have an issue with my vCenter Cloud Account failing when synchronizing images:

I am able to locate and apply my image templates in my Image Mappings but my Blueprint is failing when it tries to locate the image. I am playing with user inputs in my Blueprint which could be the cause but I would still like to figure out why my image sync fails.

I have verified my service account creds and everything else seems to be functioning. I would like to try removing and re-adding the Cloud Account but I am not sure the impact that will have on my projects, blueprints, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas, any help would be appreciated.

Capturing local time zone of user.

Hi.

I have created a XaaS blueprint form which contains a date time picker.

Currently the date/time is stored in UTC, however we have a requirement to capture the users local time in order to adjust the start date accordingly, due to having users located across the world.

I have tried using an action to capture the UTC difference but this only offsets the time against the servers local time.

new Date().getTimezoneOffset();

So my question is, is there any way to capture information about the users local time zone?

Thanks,

Dan

vRA Usage reports for Network Profiles

Under Infrastructure Tab > Network Profiles

We have a list of Network Profiles of type External.

We have imported list of IP addresses under each Network profile.

We would like to fetch a usage report for all the Network profiles with total number of IPs v/s available ones or get the total number of IPs with their Status( Allocated/Unallocated)

vRA version : 7.5

Is there a table in SQL where this data is stored, which we can query.

Is there a way to fetch these reports at vROPS end by using Management packs for vRA.

vRA 7.5 -We have deployed a VM from the blueprint with 8 CPU, But when we logged into the machine we can see only 4 cores available.

Hi,

Currently i am facing one issue in vRA 7.5.

Issue:  We have deployed a VM (Windows 10 enterprise build 15063)  -from the blueprint which allows for 4-16 CPUs. When we modifies it to i.e. 8 the VM gets created with 2 sockets x 4 cores, but guest os can use only 4. This issue happens only this blueprint.

but in Device Manager 8 CPUs are visible also there is a red warning in vcenter. if I shutdown the VM, change the CPUs to 4 then again to 8 and start the VM - it is fixed.

From the template i have deployed a VM with 8 CPU and i did not face any issues in vCennter. While deploying VM from the vRA we will get this issue.
Requesting you to please help me on this issue to fix.

Hello Guys, I am trying cloud-init on vRA8 and I am not having any luck. It works fine on ubuntu mainly because the config is straight forward but on centos8, I get the error "no authorized ssh keys fingerprints found for user cloud-user". I have followed a couple blogs and all I have done is installed cloud-init on my template and mapped the cd/dvd. when the deployment is created, I can see the cd/dvd has a iso mapped but I get that error. What am I missing? TIA

v7.5 - Resource Action Forms. Are there any YAML editing tips to make them work better for you?

$

The method I use is to capture the Resource Action with vLCM and check it in to gitlab. I can edit the YAML there and push it back to vRA via LCM

For example.

The YAML code for the "Large" text field size (which about 60% of the time isnt big enough) is;

size4

If I change that to

size: 8

Then it will fit almost everything I need and still fit on your normal 1080 screen. Note: I cant guarantee support if you do try this!

The issue I have though is that its still very "plain" even after changing the things I know about. Are there any that are less well known changes that would assist in screen real estate use etc? (changing font size would be a great one if its possible)

Thanks all.

After creating a workflow in orchestrator, then going into vRA to create an extensibility action, there is no way to force vRA to refresh the list of available workflows and the workflow doesn't show up.  After waiting for some indeterminate time ( anywhere for me between 5 minutes to 2 hours)  for the workflow to show up.   Is there some way to force the workflows to refresh?

Thanks in advance

When using a custom form, the disk is automatically created.

Hi, all.

I want to use custom form in blueprint.

The picture below is custom form that I made.

why 3.png

and the picture below is catalog request page.

why 2.png

As you can see, I didn't make additional disk. The deployed VM must have only one disk. (1 disk attached to the template.)

However, it creates a vm with two disks attached as below picture.

why 1.png

I found just one disk attached to the template. not attached two disks.

VM is distributed as one disk if blueprint custom form is not used.

Does anyone know about this?

I really need your help.

Thank you.

vRA 7.6 some catalog items do not preserve service membership with LCM

$

I'm exporting / importing several ASD and XaaS blueprints with LCM that are organized into services. Most of the blueprints are put into the right service in a new tenant but some are not. I tried to investigate the difference but have not found the root cause yet.

The difference I can see in LCM is in the manifest.json files:

{

  "contentName": "Nice blueprint",

  "uniqueId": "f1b0b4c9-2319-43e3-a02d-75b2305db908",

  "contentType": "Automation-XaaSBlueprint",

  "keyValues":   {

    "iconId": "Nice blueprint",

    "serviceName": "Management Services"

  },

  "descendents": []

}

{

  "contentName": "Misbehaving bluerprint",

  "uniqueId": "521372b9-847e-4baf-8d45-f8ba21e41ef7",

  "contentType": "Automation-XaaSBlueprint",

  "descendents": []

}

Besides the serviceName the icon entry is also missing. I checked those catalog items in vRA and it might be related to icons (the nice blueprint does not show any icons but the misbehaving has the default vRO icon). I tried to assign icons to the catalog items but did not make any difference.

I also tried to check-in the json files to GIT, add the missing keyValues and import back to LCM. This seemed to resolve the issue for the next deployment, but when I re-captured the blueprint from vRA the keyValues disappeared again.

Any ideas how to fix this?
