vRA 7.2 - Change "Machine Resources" on Blueprints

$

Hello!

I am playing around with vRA 7.2 and have created a few simple Blueprints with one "Server CloneWorkflow from Template". The Blueprint works as expected an i have created a few VMs based on the Blueprints. I like to change some "Machine Resources" (maximum CPUs, Memory or Storage) in the Blueprints and the new Settings are working for new Requests but not for the already provisioned VMs. For Example: I set the "maximum CPUs" from 2 to 4 an can request a new VM with 4 CPUs. On provisioned VMs the max. CPUs Value is not updated to 4. Can anyone confirm this behavior?

vRA 7.2 Reclamation Error System Exception

Dear All,..

I have just implemented vRA 7.2, created new tenant in addition to the default one & created a simply linked-clone blueprint.

also, connected vRA to DC as endpoint, vROps & NSX.

however, I can't see the VMs in Reclamation tab as shown in the attached picture.

instead, Error  System exception occurs .

also, I noticed I don't have (Tenant Machines) Tab. instead (Deployments) Tab shows up in its place !!

can someone help me with the Error & explain why I see Deployments tab instead of Tenant Machines tab please ?

Thanks in advanced.

Potential Bug Found: HTTP 400 Errors for Dynamically Generated Dropdowns in Property Definitions when Multi-Tenancy is in Place - Workaround Included

$

Hi all,

I've stumbled on an issue creating dynamically generated dropdowns for use in property definitions when the following conditions are in place:

1. You have a multi-tenant environment.

2. Each tenant is pointing to a DIFFERENT vRO instance. For example, you have a DEV tenant which points to your DEV vRO while your vsphere.local points to your Production VRO.

3. You are trying to configure a dynamically generated dropdown that is NOT on vsphere.local.

4. I'm using vRA version 7.1.

As I created the property definition and bound the values to the external vRO action that returns an array of strings, I received a generic "An error has occurred banner" on the GUI and the new dynamic property was not added. I was able to pick the vRO action from the list of items that are native to the configured vRO for my DEV tenant. It isn't until I clicked "Submit" that I received the warning banner. I was also unable to find the stack trace for this failure in the log section of the vRA GUI. In order to capture what is going on, I had to look at the catalina.out file in /storage/log/vmware/vcac. Here I saw the following at the top of an error stack trace shortly after clicking the "Submit" button:

com.vmware.vcac.platform.service.rest.resolver.ApplicationExceptionHandler.handleHttpStatusCodeException:673 - 404 not found

The workaround: I had to change the vRO configuration on the vsphere.local tenant to match the configuration on the DEV tenant. Before hand I tried to import the action from DEV's vRO instance into vsphere.local's, but I'm assuming the change in action GUIDs between the two still caused the same error to occur. Now I am able to get the dropdown working in the DEV tenant at the expense of having my vsphere.local pointing to something I do not want it to.

Maybe this is something that can be fixed in 7.2?

The property binding breaks dependencies (vRA 7.2)

I've just recently started encountering this error. The long and short of it is I have a software component that needs to get the DNS Address of the Routed Network, and a couple of other addresses that are dynamically generated by a software component, and the designer is preventing me from saving the property.

I'm using a binding to pull the value from the On Demand Routed Network, but I'm getting "The property binding breaks dependencies." The binding I'm using in the below picture is Routed28Bit~dns~primary_dns. In theory, this should not cause any issue.

Screenshot from 2017-01-07 15-42-36.png

I've never encountered this issue before, and it just recently started happening after some weird blueprint corruption issues that I experienced. It is not clear what is causing the issue here, as I have no explicit dependencies beyond the implicit ones generated by vRA. Any ideas?

Edit: The following binding works: _resource~SrvGroup~ip_address. This happens across multiple tenants.

Mapping network profiles to bussiness group

Hello community, I'm having some issues with VRA 7.2 involving business groups and network profiles, my issue is the one below:

Let's say I have a blueprint with a network attached to network profile "A" which is connected to VLAN 100.

Also I several business groups and we want that each one of them to deploy their VMs in its separate VLAN, so I have also several network profiles, with the relevant reservations, mapped to VLANs 200, 201, etc.

What I want to achieve is that with one catalog item, when a user from business group A requests a VM, I want that VM to be deployed in the BG assigned V-LAN, so far I've tried using these custom properties in the Business Group definition:

VirtualMachine.Network0.Name --> Network1-vlan200

VirtualMachine.Network0.ProfileName --> cloudnetwork2-vlan200

I can see that in the vCenter the VM is assigned to the right portgroup, nevertheless Vra won't assign an IP and the request ends without error.

I checked this blog: http://open902.com/vra7-customize-hostname-vlan-and-ip-during-deployment/ and it helped me a little but it won't solve my problem, because in my scenario my consumers should not modify the network assigment of their VMs.

How do solve this issue? Maybe you can give me a hint about what do you do in your environments.

Thanks in advance!

update the data VRA after executing a VRO workflow?

Hi

I would like to know how to update the data of an item after using an XAAS type action.

Example : I use a VRO workflow to update the number of vCPUs.

But I have to wait for the dattacollection to get the information changed in VRA.

Is there a way to update the data VRA after executing a VRO workflow?

For information I use XAAS type action for a tracking with a ticketing tool.

Thanks for your help

Cannot Add New Proxy Agents After Upgrade to 7.2

After upgrading from vRA 7.1 to 7.2, I can no longer use the IaaS installer downloaded from https://<vra>:5480/installer.

When I run the installer I get:  "A newer version of this product is already installed on this machine."

2017-01-10_11-56-25.png

When looking at the logs, it seems the issue is the Management Agent is at version 9559.  But the IaaS Installer on the vRA appliance is at version 9518.

Any ideas?

Internal error using default Orchestrator server in vRA 6.2.4

I am running vRA appliance Build 6.2.4-3624913 and am having issues with Orchestration Configuration > Server Configuration > Use the default Orchestrator server.  The error log pasted below does not make any sense to me.  However, I did notice the tenant variable changed from vsphere.local to null. Do I have an incorrect option?

How to manually change deployment lease after maximum in vra 7.2?

$

Hello,

After upgrading to vra 7.2 the max lease date is now actually enforced, which is great. We were finding a lot of our end users where setting the lease to never expire! However, there are some circumstances where we may want to extend a lease beyond the maximum. As an administrator I should be able to do that even if the end user cannot. Does anyone know of a way to change leases beyond what the blueprint constraints are on a case by case basis?

Thanks,

Darrenoid

Is there any functionality for batch editing of deployments in vRA 7.2?

Hello,

We are finding it burdensome to manage deployments in vra. When it comes to deleting them, if a user has 20 deployments of single VMs, we have to click each one individually in vra console to destroy it. Then we have to click "ok" on the dialog that pops up. Is there anyway to multi-select or batch manage deployments/machines in vra? If I delete the machine under managed machines, will it also delete the deployment?

Regards,

Darrenoid

Is it possible to add or import a machine to a multi machine deployment?

Hello,

Is it possible to add a machine to an existing deployment? In the vra documentation it says that while importing machines, you can only select one deployment per VM. Let's say I have a multi machine deployment and I want to add one more machine to it. Is that possible? Or if something went wrong and I need to force unregister machines from a multi machine deployment, is there are way to re-register them under a single deployment?

Thanks,

Darrenoid

Hey guys,

Is it possible to subscribe to an event and run a workflow via API call?
Basically I want to trigger a workflow each time a virtual machine blueprint is requested

vRA 7.2 - Expire Deployment Tasks Running on Missing Deployments

Hey all,

I have an issue in vRA 7.2 where scheduled expire tasks are running continuously on deployments that have already been destroyed.  Seems there is a scheduler running the expire deployment  requests every 2 hours and they all fail because the deployments no longer exist.  Any idea how to stop this behavior.  Screenshot:

Create two custom Properties with same name

Hi All,

I have a requirement where I need to add multiple drop-downs on a Blueprint to show the networks. There are multiple blueprints where different drop-downs are required against the network ports. The challenge is you can add only one custom property in Property definition example  "VirtualMachine.Network0.Name" this is an inbuilt property that you can add only once. It won't let you set this property again. I want one set of Drop-Down in one Custom Property (VirtualMachine.Network0.Name) and another set of Drop-Down in same Custom Property (VirtualMachine.Network0.Name). And then add those Custom properties to different blueprints as per network drop-down requirement.

As per the document it says "To avoid conflict with vRealize Automation properties, use a prefix such as a company or feature name followed by a dot for all custom property names" but this does not work.

vRA Version: 7.1

Any help would be appreciated.

Wildcard Certificate

Hi All,

I am using our company's wildcard certificate on our new vRealize 7.2 environment.  It works beautifully when I go to the portal (devops.company.com/vcac), but when I try to go to the VAMI (devops.company.com:5480) or to set up the embedded Orchestrator (devops.company.com:8283/vco-controlcenter), I get a certificate error.  When I look at the details of the error, it says the certificate is invalid, the CA Root certificate is not trusted, and the certificate information shows hostname.company.com.company.com.  Does anyone know how to fix this?
